| ..... Homantin Government Secondary School was founded in September 1959 as a co-educational grammar school originally called Perth Street Government Middle School. It changed its name to Homantin Government Secondary School in 1969. Our mission is to unleash students' potential, to instill in them the right values of life and to help them grow into confident, responsible and considerate members of society. We also aim at providing a pleasurable environment for students to pursue life-long learning. |
| ..... The school has 24 classes from S1 to S7 with a total enrolment of 970 students. There are 51 teaching staff members. The campus includes an air-conditioned school hall, 25 standard classrooms, 4 laboratories, 4 computer rooms, 4 special rooms, an English Activities Room, a Student Activities Room , a library, a counseling room, a PTA resource room, a self-study corner, a playground, a covered playground, a green house, a tennis court . |
| ..... General education is implemented in S1 to S3. Starting from S4, students could choose to study in the Science or Arts stream according to their individual interests and abilities. Although Chinese is the medium of instruction in our school, genuine attempts are being made to incorporate more English into various subjects in order to broaden students' exposure. In our school where the Chinese heritage is held with high respect, students are provided with ample opportunities to learn more about Chinese classics and Chinese culture. Despite our due respect for Chinese culture, English also plays a vital role. Outside of the formal curriculum, a variety of English activities are held to create an English learning environment. Through English Days, English-speaking Programmes, overseas trips, English Activity Classes, Phonetics workshops and Drama activities, students could master the second language more easily and effectively. |
| ..... Other than academic achievement, the total development of our students is regarded as equally important. Towards this end, the school forms teams to design cross-curricular programmes to inculcate in students the correct mora1 values and attitudes. | |
| ..... Our Discipline Team ensures proper behavior and good discipline in school. We provide counseling and guidance services to facilitate students' personal, emotional and social development. We offer careers guidance to students, providing information on vocational training, employment opportunities and information for those wishing to pursue the academic path. We integrate Moral, Civic, Environmental, Health and Sex Education into a comprehensive Growth Education Programme to enhance students' all-round development. We have 3l clubs, which provide an array of extra-curricular activities to develop students' confidence, creativity, leadership and interpersonal skills. | |
..... The Students' Association was established in 1999. This strong student body strives to enrich school life and serves as a link between the school and its students. The Association promotes student welfare and strengthens student relationship through whole school events such as sports competitions, music contests, debates, Teachers' Day celebrations and other cultural/academic activities. ..... With a strong sense of belonging to the school, our graduates take pride in their mother school and treasure every chance to be involved in school functions. The Alumni Association, therefore, acts as a bridge between graduates and their alma mater. Through their commitment and dedication, graduates are able to make valuable contributions to the school and play a part in its development. |
| ..... The healthy development of our students relies on the concerted efforts of the school and the parents. Through the Parent-Teacher Association, parents have a better understanding of the school mission and policies, and thus can work hand in hand with the school in fostering the healthy growth and development of our students. | |
..... Our conviction in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning is evident in our active involvement in the IQEA Project (Improving the Quality of Education for All). Our school has taken an active role in sharing our experiences with other schools through conferences, seminars and workshops. Starting with skills development through project work in the first year, we moved on to the cultivation of a collaborative culture at different levels of teaching and learning. And as the way forward, we have the vision of building the school as an effective learning community in the years to come. |
|
..... In 2002-04, our school was chosen as one of the Resource Schools under the Schools Professional Development Project, which aims at disseminating good practices and encouraging professional interflow among Hong Kong schools. Our school has offered nine areas for sharing, from our unique Classical Chinese Curriculum, Diversified Reading Scheme and Invitational Education to the practical sharing of teaching resources with fellow CMI Schools. Over 1000 colleagues from over 30 schools came for professional sharing, amongst them educators from China, Japan, Thailand and the UK. Feedback on this project was most encouraging and we are very proud of the partnership role we play in fostering teamwork among education workers in Hong Kong. |
..... In 2005-06, our school¡¦s performance was audited by the EMB External School Review (ESR) Team. We received ¡§Excellent¡¨ rating in 9 areas ( Planning & Organisation, Professional Leadership, Staff Management, Planning & Management of Resources, Curriculum, Support for Student Development, Links with Parents & External Organisations, School Culture and Participation & Achievement) and ¡§Good¡¨ rating in 5 areas (Self-evaluation, Teaching, Student Learning, Performance Assessment and Attitude & Behaviour). |
| ..... As a worldwide recognition for our achievement in the past years, Homantin Government Secondary School was granted the 'Inviting School Award' by the IAIE - International Alliance for Invitational Education - in October 2000. Various programs and activities have been designed to create a warm and facilitative environment for our students in an earnest effort to sustain Invitational Education. |
| ..... The staff of Homantin Government Secondary School are proud of being recognized as an Inviting School and are keen to ensure that we remain as such. It is our conviction to put children first and make relentless efforts to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning. With a staff of highly committed teachers, Homantin Government Secondary School will continue to grow from strength to strength and be totally committed to the broad ideals of Invitational Education. |
